PVC plumbing pipe connection

PVC plumbing pipe connection

It is well known that PVC materials have a wide range of commercial applications. Today, PVC has two basic forms: rigid and flexible. Although it is also used for doors, windows, bottles, packaging and floors, the most common use is the PVC plumbing pipes. PVC is the third most widely used plastic polymer in the world, more than half of which is used to make pipes and fittings for our water supply and drainage system. Its popularity lies in its availability, cost, density and strength, as well as its tolerance to chemicals and bases. Then, if you know how to connect the PVC pipe joints, it will save a lot of time for you when you are at home alone.

What things you will need to prepare before the connection process of the PVC plumbing pipes?

As an old saying goes, a handy tool makes a handy man. Therefore, the following is the materials we should prepare before the installation of the PVC pipe coupling.

1.    The sandpaper: It is used to sand the outside of the PVC plumbing pipes end and the inside of the pipe socket.

2.    Clean rags: It is used to dry two PVC pipes to ensure that the surface is free of water and oil.

3.    New PVC pipe fittings: This is the most important materials of all.

4.    PVC glue: We use it to fix PVC plumbing pipes.

5.    PVC cutters: It is used to cut off the useless part of the PVC pipe coupling.

6.    The feeler: We use it to prevent the rubber ring from being deformed and distorted.

Two ways to connect the PVC pipes

1.    Connecting PVC Pipe and Fittings via PVC Solvents: Connecting PVC pipe fittings with PVC cement is not to glue them together but to weld them together. The PVC adhesive melts the surface of the plastic, and after about 30 seconds they will be permanently fused together. Because now all the PVC elements are necessary for a huge melting structure, making them much stronger than a solid unit. This is the way to connect the PVC pipe coupling.

2.    Connecting PVC pipe joints via fasteners: Another method is to use fasteners (screws) to temporarily but safely connect PVC plumbing pipes and accessories together to firmly fix the structure without permanent fixation of PVC cement. This method can be used repeatedly or repositioned in the future. It’s a good way to connect PVC pipe coupling, but there are some limitations: it’s not as strong as PVC cement, and it can’t be used for internally assembled components.

What should we pay attention to during the installation of the PVC pipe coupling?

During the construction process, it is necessary to polish PVC plumbing pipes with sandpaper and dry the surface water or oil with dry cloth. Failure to do so will leave defects in the PVC pipe joints during the bonding process. As the pipeline will be used continuously and bear water pressure in the future, it will inevitably not crack for a long time, resulting in running water. In addition, the choice of glue is also very important. You can’t choose inferior glue or even use expired glue, which will lead to frequent quality problems of the PVC pipe fittings in the future.

I think now you have a general understanding of the assembly of PVC pipe coupling. As long as you operate correctly, you will succeed.
